Pre-adoption Group
All prospective parents participate in a 10 week Parent Education and Preparation for International Adoption Class designed specifically for Adopt-A-Child families.
Adopt-A-Child sponsers monthly pre-adoption meetings in our Pittsburgh office. These classes meet monthly. Discussions focus on preparing for an international adoption, creating a family through adoption, and parenting our children. Guest speakers include pediatricians, psychologists, social workers and other healthcare professionals, as well as parents who have adopted with our agency.
Post-adoption Studies
Following the adoption, 4 post-placement reports are required as a way to record the adoptive family's adjustment. A social worker meets with one or both parents and the child to fulfill this obligation.
Adoptive Parents' Network
Informal gatherings are planned with specific topics for discussion. Social gatherings for the families are scheduled throughout the year, including our annual summer picnic and annual luncheon.
Consultation Service
If you have a particular concern regarding your child, parenting, or family relationships which you would like to discuss, our social workers are available for short-term or ongoing consultations.
